What's up people?! I have a 2007 Gixxer 600. Does anyone know the top speed for this bike. I have gone 140 mph but there was more throttle to twist. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Generally speaking, stock speeds are:
1000 - 185 mph
750 - 175 mph
600 - 165 mph
Of course these will vary due to road and climactic conditions, rider form and tuck, and testicle size.

yea whats the general consensus on how much its off by? i've heard 10%. so that would put your 160mph at 146mph?? and the 600 top speed at just under 140?? or is that worst case %'s?
i guess thats hard to answer cuz each year is prolly different... :headscrat

Yes the top speed is 'indicated top speed'. Reports vary, but typically off between 5-8%, I think 10% is a little steep. You can always get a speedohealer if you want to see how fast you're going accurately. But then I don't commute at 186mph too often, so I don't have a need for that.

I've gotten my 02 600 to read 155 on the speedo before I ran outta road. I'm sure in reality it was more like 145 though.
Last night I got to 130 in 4th gear. Fun stuff

oh cool. always wondered!
another way to do it that i've tried is if you find one of the newer honda civics ('06 and + i believe) with the digital speedo high on the dash you can ride next to it and read the mph. i think i indicated 73 and the civic read 67 so thats why i assumed the 10% that i heard was right... good to know tho

167 indicated to be exact. If the speedo is off by 10%, then 150 is the actual top speed (10% of 167 is 16.7....round up to 17, 167 - 17 = 150).

That's assuming that the speedo in the Civic is correct, which it isn't. They're both off.

I remember an article in I think Sportrider about that. They had concluded that the top speed was around 162mph. I'd say give or take a few due to weight and conditions and so on.

Why are the spedo's off at all? This might sound like a dumb question but i mean really i don't understand.. Are they just off at higher speeds? Like do they get worse % wise as your speed increases? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

i don't know why the manuf's don't make it accurate when they build it?? that part doesn't make sense. but if cars are off too then that doesn't help either. each bike has its own ecu and gauges too so that isn't the reason..
i know they are off by a %. so at 10 mph you're off by 0.4 - 0.8 mph and at 100 you're off by 4 - 8 mph.

Bottom line, does it really matter? You dont commute at thse speeds and as long as you have solid, fast acceleration to get out and around people or hazzards that is all that truely matters. If all you are looking for speed then buy a GSXR 1000 and hit the track. I have put to many young men in body bags over the years due to high speed wrecks because something happened that they could not control or avoid. Sure it is an awesome rush but is it worth your life? I have a GSXR 750 and will never go up to the speeds you are talking about unless it is on a track with the proper gear and conditions. Be safe, there are a good number of years ahead of you to enjoy riding so don't kill yourself now. I don't mean to be the party pooper, I just want riders to think before twisting the throtle and maybe our rep will improve over time.

i'm talking about speeds in general. i dont want to be off 6mph at 60... i don't go those speeds either. but i still don't know why they don't come accurate from suzuki...:headscrat

One would think with todays high tech engineering that this would not even be an issue, go figure :headscrat
